About The Position

This position is an unique early-career opportunity working with music resources across a variety of collections, formats, disciplines, and languages. In this role, you’ll support library collections through cataloging, metadata management, authority control, quality review, and mentoring student employees. This position offers the chance to work with print and digital materials while contributing to important cataloging and archival work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated research experience through academic study or professional work.
  • Minimum of 2 years of active music experience, which may include formal coursework, ensemble participation, private instruction, performance, music administration, teaching, composition, or other direct engagement with music in academic, professional, or community settings.
  • Experience with MARC 21, Dublin Core, and metadata schema
  • Knowledge of national cataloging standards including RDA, LCC, LCSH, and PCC
  • Familiarity with library systems and national databases such as OCLC Worldcat
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to supervise student employees and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Adaptability, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music or equivalent experience (4+ years active music experience)

Responsibilities

  • Catalog print and digital music materials in monographic formats
  • Analyze and update bibliographic records using MARC21, RDA, and related metadata standards
  • Import and maintain records in local, national, and international library systems
  • Support authority control and contribute to cooperative cataloging efforts
  • Perform quality control reviews of records and student work
  • Supervise, train, and mentor student employees
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and library training opportunities
