About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with them in moving the district toward its goals. The district serves over 19,000 students Pre-K-12 across 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs. The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff that consists of certified, dedicated individuals who enjoy working with student athletes. The modified program for grades 7-8 emphasizes skill development, participation, discipline, enjoyment of play, competition, and the value of hard work. The high school program stresses the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. This position is for a Music Arranger for the Marching Band, considered an extracurricular contract.

Requirements

  • Extracurricular contract
  • Arranges and creates music for the performing ensemble.
  • Engages students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.
  • Assists the staff in relaying the style, meaning and fundamentals of the music written for the ensemble.
  • Attends rehearsals, sectionals and performances actively participating in assisting students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.
  • Monitors and controls student behavior according to established procedures and shares any concerns, etc. with the Director.
