About The Position

This is a stipend position responsible for developing students' appreciation for music, teaching instrumental music techniques, discovering and developing musical talents, and fostering knowledge and skills in music expression. The instructor will lead various band ensembles, manage program finances, organize fundraising, and ensure students receive appropriate instruction and performance opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and instruct marching band, concert band, pep band, and other ensembles.
  • Plan and run daily rehearsals, sectionals, and after-school band camps.
  • Prepare students for concerts, festivals, and adjudicated contests.
  • Manage the band program's finances, including allocating funds for sheet music, travel expenses, and staff.
  • Organize and supervise fundraising activities to supplement school funding and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to secondary pupils.
  • Utilize course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
  • Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and repairs to instruments as required.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
  • Evaluate each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.
  • Select and requisition books, musical instruments, and instructional aids, maintain required inventory records.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
  • Perform such other tasks as may be requested by immediate supervisor.
