About The Position

The museum teacher is responsible for teaching school and youth programs at the Pierce House, Quincy House and in the community. The primary goal of the museum teacher is to provide the greatest access to Historic New England through high quality school and youth programs. Programs are offered to pre-school and elementary school aged students and emphasize an interactive, hands-on approach to learning history.

Requirements

• A minimum of a B.A. in American history, education, museum studies or relevant field.
• Experience working with children is required.
• Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in all responsibilities and activities.
• Ability to drive and a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Team teach school and youth programs at Historic New England house museums in the Boston area, as well as outreach programs at schools and youth organizations in the Greater Boston area.
• Opening and closing museums.
• Cleaning museums.
• Setting up and breaking down programs.
• Receiving program monies and evaluations.
• Reporting daily attendance numbers.
• Assisting the Education Program Coordinator with some administrative duties.
• Monitoring and preparing program supplies.
