About The Position

Museum Store Clerks are the retail arm of our Visitor Experience Department and are key players in the visitor experience. This position is responsible for providing customer service to visitors at both indoor and outdoor locations throughout Storm King’s vast property. Museum Store Clerks assist visitors with museum store purchases, sell and provide information about memberships, and offer further customer service support as the first point of contact on Storm King’s main phone line. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, strong cash handling experience, and the ability to multi-task. Point-of-Sale system experience and visual merchandising and display skills a plus.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in retail or a related field, with a strong understanding of customer service, sales, and/or store operations
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to interact with visitors and staff in a consistently friendly and professional manner
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays
  • Valid Class D driver’s license with a clean record, without driving restrictions
  • Ability to maneuver outdoors in all weather conditions on 500 acres of hills, grass, and gravel pathways
  • Ability to vocalize on a two-way radio
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. and up to 50 with assistance
  • Ability to operate a Point-of-Sale system (cash register)
  • Ability to see, hear, or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that this position's requirements can be fully met
  • Frequently stands for long periods of time
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboard and/or touchscreen device

Nice To Haves

  • Prior cash handling and POS system experience preferred (training provided)
  • Experience with Altru Daily Sales is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist visitors with their purchases and provide product information
  • Maintain the overall look of the store, ensuring it is clean, restocked, and properly merchandised
  • Assist in maintaining merchandise records and inventory
  • Assist with the processing and shipping of online orders
  • Support pop-up and satellite store locations, as needed
  • Operate Point-of-Sale (POS) system and handle cash transactions
  • Greet and interact with visitors, providing wayfinding information and answering questions about merchandise and the site
  • Assist visitors with the purchasing of Storm King Memberships
