About The Position

The Museum and Visitor Experience Supervisor is a part time, public facing position responsible for the daily operation and visitor experience of the Moreno Valley City Museum within the Moreno Valley Museum & ArtSpace. This position is scheduled for 24 hours per week and reports to the Floor Operations Supervisor. Two part time Museum and Visitor Experience Supervisors will share museum coverage. Each Supervisor will lead the museum during assigned shifts while personally providing docent services, welcoming visitors, interpreting exhibits, conducting tours, answering questions, and helping visitors engage with the history and stories presented in the museum. This is a hands on position that requires regular interaction with visitors rather than functioning solely in an administrative capacity.

  • Strong verbal communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and accurately communicate historical and interpretive information.
  • Friendly, patient, dependable, and comfortable engaging with visitors of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow procedures, accept direction, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to remain calm and professional when responding to visitor concerns or unexpected situations.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Flexible availability, including weekdays, weekends, occasional evenings, holidays, school and group visits, special events, and periods of increased attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in customer service, visitor services, museums, cultural attractions, education, hospitality, tourism, or live events is preferred.
  • Previous lead, supervisory, docent, or group facilitation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the responsible museum supervisor during assigned shifts and provide direction to employees or volunteers assigned to the museum area.
  • Personally provide docent and visitor services throughout the day.
  • Welcome and orient visitors and provide accurate information about the museum, its exhibits, and the Moreno Valley Museum & ArtSpace.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of Moreno Valley history and the exhibits, artifacts, photographs, stories, and interpretive materials presented in the museum.
  • Explain exhibits and historical information clearly, accurately, and in a manner that is appropriate for visitors of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Conduct scheduled and informal guided tours for individuals, families, school groups, community organizations, VIPs, and other visitors.
  • Complete assigned opening and closing responsibilities and confirm that exhibits, visitor areas, and tour materials are ready for operation.
  • Monitor museum galleries and public areas, encourage respectful visitor behavior, and communicate museum policies in a professional manner.
  • Support visitor flow, line management, group arrivals, special events, and periods of increased attendance.
  • Complete routine inspections of exhibit and public areas and promptly report damage, maintenance needs, safety concerns, or missing materials to the Floor Operations Supervisor.
  • Respond to visitor questions and concerns and refer significant complaints, incidents, or situations requiring additional assistance to the Floor Operations Supervisor or designated venue leader.
  • Follow established safety, emergency response, accessibility, and incident reporting procedures.
  • Use radios and other communication tools appropriately to remain connected with the Floor Operations Supervisor and venue teams.
  • Maintain visitor information, brochures, tour materials, and assigned work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Collaborate with Box Office, Retail, Operations, Security, Cleaning, and other venue teams to support a consistent visitor experience.
  • Complete required museum checklists, attendance records, visitor feedback notes, and shift reports.
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and briefings related to museum content, guest service, safety, and venue operations.
