About The Position

This part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) MUS Vocal/Opera Student Assistant position is for the School of VPDA at Oregon State University (OSU). The Vocal Studies/Opera Intern (VSOP), a work-study position, plays an essential role in the Vocal Studies program. The student occupying this position has a high degree of responsibility and is involved in nearly all aspects of Vocal Studies. The Vocal Studies/Opera Intern position is allotted twenty billable hours per week.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a liaison between the Director of Vocal Studies and students, organizing and monitoring voice juries each term
  • Assisting with Vocal/Choral auditions at the beginning of the year
  • Maintaining student files via Google Drive
  • Participating when appropriate in Voice area faculty meetings
  • Overseeing logistics and publicity for visiting master class teachers
  • Serving as the assistant to the Director of the Opera Workshop
  • Organizing and overseeing Opera Workshop auditions
  • Producing the weekly rehearsal schedule
  • Participating in all production meetings
  • Serving as the costume master and often designer
  • Procuring and transporting all set pieces
  • Serving as the props master
  • Serving as liaison with all performance and rehearsal venues
  • Assisting in generating publicity, including via social media
  • Overseeing house management and stage management for performances
  • Serving as stage director for at least one scene
  • Handling logistics relating to load-in, strike, and load-out
