About The Position

This position involves advanced manual labor duties of a skilled and semi-skilled nature, performed under general supervision. A Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes (CDL) is required to be considered for this position.

Requirements

• Six (6) months experience performing semi-skilled manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions
• Florida Driver's license
• Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes (CDL)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
• Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
• Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.

• Six (6) months experience making water connection taps and operating tapping equipment (for temporary positions)

Responsibilities

• Supervises unskilled employees
• Keeps some simple records and submits reports
• Performs manual labor work requiring knowledge of some specialized facets of a particular field of maintenance or construction work
• Operates maintenance or construction equipment or may drive a truck
• Drives and operates professional type mowers in the maintenance of parks and parkways and performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments thereon
• Repairs, replaces and installs sewer and water lines and related facilities
• Inspects, repairs and paints fire hydrants
• Paints, repairs, installs traffic signs, barricades and other traffic control devices
• Makes water connection taps and operates tapping equipment
• Spray paints road markings, loads painting materials and supplies
• Constructs and raises brick manholes
• Drives and operates farm-type tractors with a variety of attachments such as spreaders, trailers, drags, tillers, cultivators, mowing units, and other attachments necessary for park maintenance and construction; and performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments thereon
• Transports workers, equipment, materials, and supplies
• Performs related work as required
• Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach
