About The Position

Multisport Officials will provide support for various facility-operated basketball and volleyball programs. This position is not eligible for remote work. The role involves enforcing rules, maintaining control of games, promoting a safe environment, and communicating professionally with participants and spectators. For youth programs, officials will explain rules in an age-appropriate manner, oversee safety and sportsmanship, and provide constructive feedback. For competitive leagues, officials will consistently call violations, manage game environments professionally, and address unsportsmanlike conduct promptly. Additional responsibilities include following facility policies, communicating with staff and patrons, understanding emergency procedures, and reporting any complaints.

Requirements

  • Must have a strong understanding of basketball and/or volleyball rules
  • Prior experience as an official or referee strongly preferred
  • Competitive Officials must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and patrons
  • Ability to follow all facility rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must be able to stand, walk and run for extended periods
  • Ability to work flexible hours; evenings and weekends are integral to this position

Nice To Haves

  • First aid, CPR, and AED training is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all rules and regulations to ensure fair and consistent game play
  • Maintain control of games through proper positioning, calls, and communication
  • Promote a safe environment by identifying and addressing unsafe behavior
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with players, coaches, and spectators
  • Explain all rules and gameplay in an engaging, age-appropriate manner (Youth Programs)
  • Oversee player safety and sportsmanship and intervene as necessary (Youth Programs)
  • Provide constructive feedback to participants while maintaining game flow (Youth Programs)
  • Consistently recognize and call violations and infractions (Competitive Programs)
  • Manage competitive game environments in a professional manner (Competitive Programs)
  • Address unsportsmanlike conduct promptly and effectively (Competitive Programs)
  • Follow and enforce all facility policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with staff and patrons
  • Understand emergency procedures for equipment and evacuation of the building
  • Provide facility management with any participant or spectator complaints or concerns
