About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. The Multimedia Specialist will support ?Upena Moananuiakea, a federally funded Title III ANNH grant at the University of Hawai?i–West O?ahu focused on culturally grounded, technology-enhanced teaching and learning. This position will develop multimedia and digital learning resources for faculty, students, educators, and community partners, with initial work supporting the Paka?a Lanakila project through website design and maintenance, photography production, digital image editing, visual asset preparation, media file organization, outreach materials, and related bilingual educational resources in collaboration with project staff, the Graphic Design kumu, and the Bilingual Language Content Team for ?olelo Hawai?i and English materials. As needed, the position may also assist with basic video, audio, or other digital content production in support of ?Upena-related projects.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Creative Media, Graphic Design, Web Design, or similar.
  • Experience developing multimedia, web, photography, or visual communication materials for educational, outreach, publication, or instructional use, including digital photography, image editing, and preparation of visual assets for print and web publication.
  • Experience using WordPress or a similar content management system.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications or comparable media production tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare multimedia materials that support ?Upena Moananuiakea projects, including print, web, outreach, and instructional resources for culturally grounded, technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
  • Support the Paka?a Lanakila project by developing and maintaining a bilingual WordPress microsite featuring downloadable classroom resources, supporting cultural content, visual assets, and related educational materials.
  • Collaborate with ?Upena staff, the Graphic Design kumu, the Bilingual Language Content Team, faculty, and community partners to ensure materials align with project goals, bilingual formatting needs, cultural considerations, and production timelines.
  • Support photography production for middle or high school students playing approximately 42 orchestral and band instruments, including pre-production planning, forms, image preparation, and related coordination for print and digital educational materials.
  • Organize and maintain digital media files, image libraries, website assets, and related project materials for publication, collaboration, archiving, and long-term use.
  • Assist with basic video, audio, or other digital media production as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
