About The Position

Movement Schools is seeking a passionate, mission-aligned Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher for its K-5 public charter schools. This role focuses on designing and delivering high-quality English language development (ELD) instruction to build scholar proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while honoring the linguistic and cultural assets MLs bring. The teacher will also collaborate with classroom teachers to provide integrated language support and assist with school-wide operations. The ideal candidate believes multilingualism is a strength, holds high expectations for all scholars, and is committed to closing opportunity gaps for multilingual learners and their families.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, English, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Valid state teacher licensure with the appropriate ESL / ESOL / Multilingual Learner credential in the state in which the role is based (e.g., NC ESL K–12 licensure, GA ESOL Endorsement) — or eligibility to obtain through an approved alternative licensure pathway within the timeline required by the state.
Passing scores on any state-required content assessments for the applicable ESL/ESOL/Multilingual Learner credential.
Working knowledge of the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, WIDA ACCESS, and the WIDA Screener.
Working knowledge of federal law affecting multilingual learners (Title III of ESSA, Equal Educational Opportunities Act, and Castañeda v. Pickard requirements).
Strong commitment to equity, scholar growth, and the mission of Movement Schools.
Ability to pass criminal history background checks as required for charter school employees in any state in which Movement Schools operates.

Nice To Haves

Prior teaching experience in an elementary (K-5) school setting.
Bilingual or multilingual proficiency — Spanish preferred.
Master's degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
Training in the SIOP Model, GLAD Strategies, Translanguaging Pedagogy, or other evidence-based approaches for multilingual learners.
Experience administering WIDA ACCESS and interpreting proficiency data.
Experience coaching classroom teachers on multilingual learner instruction.
Experience serving dually identified scholars (multilingual learners with IEPs or 504 plans).
Lived experience as a multilingual learner or in a multilingual community.

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver standards-aligned English language development (ELD) instruction grounded in the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework.
Deliver instruction through program service delivery models based on scholar language, academic, and grade-level needs.
Use scaffolded, standards-based, asset-oriented instructional practices to accelerate access to grade-level academic content.
Design language objectives alongside content objectives so every lesson develops both language and academic knowledge.
Build scholar academic vocabulary, oral discourse, and writing across the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Administer, score, and analyze English language proficiency (ELP) assessments, such as WIDA Screener, WIDA ACCESS, or other related assessments.
Use scholar language proficiency data, formative assessments, and progress-monitoring tools to inform instruction and identify next steps.
Track scholar progress toward reclassification criteria and celebrate proficiency growth.
Partner with classroom teachers to interpret language proficiency data and align instructional supports.
Partner with the Network Multilingual Learner Director to ensure compliance with federal Title III requirements, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA) as they apply to multilingual learners.
Maintain accurate multilingual learner records, home language surveys, service logs, and program documentation.
Support Home Language Survey administration, initial screening, program entry decisions, and required parent notifications within timelines.
Partner with the Exceptional Children team to support dually identified scholars (multilingual learners with IEPs or 504 plans).
Coach classroom teachers on high-leverage instructional strategies for multilingual learners (e.g., sentence frames, comprehensible input, structured discourse, visuals, cognates).
Co-plan with classroom teachers to design language-rich, accessible core content lessons.
Model instructional strategies in classrooms and support teachers in adopting them.
Facilitate professional development on multilingual learner instruction, culturally responsive teaching, and asset-based mindsets.
Partner with the Network Multilingual Learner Director to ensure required family communications are translated and delivered in the home language.
Collaborate with the schools’ Office Manager to bridge language access at family events, conferences, and school-wide functions.
Celebrate the languages, cultures, and identities of our multilingual scholars and families through school-wide events and classroom practice.
Build strong, trust-based relationships with multilingual families rooted in respect for their linguistic and cultural expertise, serving as a trusted point of contact for ML families.
Uphold and reinforce Movement Schools’ culture of high expectations, urgency, and joy.
Support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks — including arrival and dismissal duties, lunch and recess coverage, hallway transitions, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned.
Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade-level planning.
