About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy equipment in a crushed stone or sand and gravel quarry environment. The Multi-Skilled Equipment Operator operates loaders, excavators, haul trucks, and other equipment as needed to support quarry operations and achieve production goals. The role involves working in varying terrain and weather conditions, supporting material movement and site upkeep, and maintaining awareness of safety, equipment condition, and production requirements.

Requirements

Less than two years of experience operating heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment.
Proven experience operating various types of heavy equipment.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in challenging terrain.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Physical ability to climb ladders, sit for extended periods, and withstand vibrations.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
Proficiency operating large loaders, including accurately maneuvering, loading, dumping, and transporting materials.
Ability to handle equipment attachments and understand their applications.
Ability to identify equipment malfunctions and report them to the maintenance team.
Ability to recognize hazards, follow safety procedures, and take steps to mitigate risks.
Ability to coordinate with other operators, dispatch/scale house, and ground personnel.
Ability to solve work-related problems using practical knowledge and hands-on skills, and to adapt to unexpected challenges.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Trade school diploma or certificate in equipment operation is highly desired.

Responsibilities

Safely and efficiently operate front end loaders, excavators, haul trucks, dozers, graders, and other equipment as needed.
Maintain precise control of equipment while adapting to varying terrain and weather conditions.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
Load and unload raw materials, finished products, and waste materials.
Excavate and move earth, rock, and other materials to support quarry operations.
Maintain haul roads and work areas to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.
Assist with stockpile management, plant feeding, and general site maintenance.
Perform basic maintenance checks on equipment operated.
Collaborate with maintenance teams on repairs and preventive maintenance.
Follow safety regulations and protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and follow quarry traffic rules.
Maintain situational awareness to prevent accidents and protect the safety of self and others.
Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, and equipment malfunctions.
Follow environmental regulations related to dust control, spill prevention, and responsible equipment operation.
Optimize equipment utilization and minimize downtime to maximize productivity.
Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient material flow and task completion.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, materials moved, and tasks completed; complete required paperwork or electronic documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
