About The Position

The Multi-Modality CT and MRI Technologist is responsible for maintaining active status in their practiced modalities, providing clinical leadership, completing projects, and performing advanced level clinical duties. This role involves corroborating patient clinical history, preparing patients for procedures, operating imaging equipment, administering contrast media, and initiating basic life support when necessary. The technologist will also provide patient education, manage inventory, and offer practical instruction to students and partners. A strong emphasis is placed on adhering to universal protocol, patient safety principles, and current MRI safety practices, including managing access to magnetic resonance zones and reporting safety incidents. The role requires proficiency in performing high-level MRI studies and documenting all pertinent information in the electronic medical record.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program
  • Two to four years of experience as a technologist as a Radiographer is required.
  • ARRT registered in Radiography and CT required with the ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT credential required
  • Two to Four Years experience in CT and one year in MRI
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin
  • BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire
  • Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).
  • Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
  • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
  • Experience in working with radiologic technologists, radiologists and support staff in a multimodality department
  • Proficiency in mentoring employees and providing corrective action appropriately
  • Experience in obtaining departmental accreditation
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner
  • Demonstrated ability to foster excellent teamwork in a radiology department
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently
  • Read/comprehend written and verbal instructions

Responsibilities

  • Maintains active status in the modalities in which they practice.
  • Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.
  • Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities.
  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomical area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Maintains knowledge of current MRI safety practices and utilizes such as part of daily practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for persons entering Zones I-IV.
  • Applies principles and policies of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
  • Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered and labs are within range- reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary.
  • Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
  • Reports and documents MRI safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.
  • Operates MRI scanner, associated equipment, and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes
  • Documents all information pertinent to MRI procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation.
  • Verifies consent/screening form for all entering Zone IV.
  • Ability to perform independent high-level MRI studies such as but not limited to; all cardiac studies, run offs, conditional device protocols, and MRI procedural studies
