About The Position

The Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining all equipment, machinery, and the building in good working order and making necessary repairs. This role requires a strong understanding of pneumatics, electrical controls, and hydraulics, with the ability to diagnose and correct problems. The mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, complete work orders, manage parts inventory, and ensure the proper setup and breakdown of extrusion and thermoforming machinery. They will also be involved in facility shutdowns and startups, building repairs, and operating PIT equipment. Housekeeping, end-of-shift duties, and assisting with audits are also key responsibilities. The position requires working a shift schedule that includes every other Sunday and may involve overtime and mandatory training classes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance.
  • Experience in welding.
  • Experience in troubleshooting pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical controls.
  • Experience in maintenance/repair of plant machinery.
  • Ability to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to operate a calculator.
  • Ability to read and understand instrumentation gauges and schematics.
  • Ability to understand and determine "differentiation pressures" from a pressure controller.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
  • Ability to recognize and identify problems with machines and/or material via collection of data and interpretation of that data.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to apply troubleshooting techniques to issues as they arise and seek help when necessary.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to differentiate between "good" and "bad" quality.
  • Powered Industrial Truck Certification (forklift, clamp, sissor lift, etc.).
  • Lockout/Tagout Certification.
  • On-site Hazmat Certification.
  • Hot Work Permit Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all equipment/machinery and building in good working order and repair as necessary.
  • Provide and maintain appropriate tools and toolbox to perform all necessary job functions.
  • Coordinate all job assignments with Shift Supervisor at start of shift to ensure maximum production uptime and efficiency.
  • Assist Shift Supervisor with proper facility evaluation procedures including machinery shutdown.
  • Oversee and coordinate PM Operator functions for the respective shift.
  • Diagnose and correct problems with pneumatics, electrical controls, and hydraulics.
  • Apply strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including reading schematics.
  • Perform assigned Preventive Maintenance/Safety Programs per defined schedule with accurate and complete documentation.
  • Complete all assigned Work Orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain Maintenance Parts Inventory per Infor and Plant Sanitation standards.
  • Breakdown and setup all Extrusion and Thermoforming product on machinery to standards.
  • Perform quality inspections and ensure tooling is in good working condition.
  • Clean, maintain, and properly store tooling upon breakdown.
  • Diagnose and repair problems with extrusion and thermoforming process and machinery to ensure quality production uptime.
  • Adjust daily schedule (break times, meal periods, etc.) to ensure machinery is in full production.
  • Perform all facility shutdown and startup procedures correctly and completely.
  • Perform necessary repairs to building including plumbing, roof, silos, trenches, heating and air systems, dock doors and plates, chiller system, parking lot, building additions/renovations, equipment modifications, and new equipment installations.
  • Follow Hot Work Permit procedures and ensure proper documentation.
  • Operate all PIT equipment per OSHA specifications, including daily inspections and maintenance.
  • Perform all housekeeping functions necessary to business operations in respective work areas.
  • Communicate all equipment and material issues at shift change.
  • Clean and organize work area at end of shift.
  • Ensure all maintenance parts and tools are properly stored at end of shift.
  • Unload incoming product/material for receipt and placement into facility.
  • Assist in building/machinery preparation for Plant Sanitation/OSHA audits.
  • Work overtime as business demands, including monthly training classes.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including all safety regulations.
  • Perform any and all job assignments/functions as necessary to daily business demands as instructed by Management.
