About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a motivated individual to join their dynamic, employee-owned consulting firm. This role focuses on designing, managing, and marketing Water Resources Engineering, primarily for MS4-related projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in stormwater management, TMDL Action Plans, MS4 Program Plans, and MS4 compliance, with a particular understanding of Virginia stormwater regulations. This position offers the opportunity to grow the water resources discipline within a multi-discipline engineering office and assist clients with MS4 permit compliance and TMDL goals. The role involves overseeing, performing, and managing various water resources engineering projects, acting as a technical mentor, and contributing to marketing efforts.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in stormwater management, TMDL Action Plans and implementation, MS4 Program Plans, and MS4 compliance.
  • Understanding of existing Virginia stormwater regulations.
  • Ability to effectively oversee, perform, and manage a variety of water resources related engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision.
  • Acts as a technical mentor to less experienced engineers.
  • Experience in engineering design.
  • Ability to analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Experience in developing project specific project plans, Project Management Plans/quality management plans.
  • Experience managing subconsultants.
  • Ability to build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project.
  • Experience preparing progress reports and reviewing invoices.
  • Experience developing and leading project status and presentations.
  • Experience assisting with marketing processes including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Experience leading and managing team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Manages project(s) in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Responsible for MS4 Program Plan development and revision, MS4 program, assisting clients with implementation of the DEQ Stormwater Handbook, compliance and VPDES compliance inspections of construction projects.
  • Conduct watershed studies, TMDL Action Plans, and TMDL project implementation including design of BMP retrofits, stream restoration, shoreline restoration and similar projects.
  • Design and inspect traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments.
  • Coordination with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Develop project specific project plans, Project Management Plans/quality management plans.
  • Manage subconsultants.
  • Build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project.
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices.
  • Develop and lead in project status and presentations.
  • Assist Section Heads, Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with the marketing process including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of the team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
