About The Position

This is a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse position specializing in Oncology and Neurology, with night shifts. Nurses will be required to float to other Medical-Surgical areas and may need to care for up to 8 patients when necessary. The top diagnoses and procedures include Stroke, Cancer, Palliative/End-of-Life care, Mental Status Changes, Seizures, Post-Operative care for Craniotomy/Laminectomy/Shunt, complications of Chemotherapy, symptom management, and Chemotherapy Administration. Special procedures performed on the unit include Bone Marrow Biopsy and EEG/Continuous Monitoring. Common medications include general medications and chemotherapy. Common equipment includes IV pumps and PCA pumps.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) license.
BLS/BCLS certification.
Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing.
Experience in Oncology and Neurology nursing.
Willingness to work night shifts (1900-0730).
Willingness to float to other MS areas.
Willingness to take up to 8 patients when needed.
Willingness to work at least 4 weekend shifts in a 6-week period.

Nice To Haves

Specialty certifications in Oncology or Neurology.
Experience with Bone Marrow Biopsy.
Experience with EEG/Continuous Monitoring.
Experience administering chemotherapy.

Responsibilities

Float to other MS areas as required.
Take up to 8 patients when needed.
Provide care for patients with diagnoses including Stroke, Cancer, Palliative/End-of-Life, Mental Status Changes, and Seizures.
Provide post-operative care for Craniotomy/Laminectomy/Shunt patients.
Manage complications of chemotherapy and administer chemotherapy.
Manage symptoms and provide palliative/end-of-life care.
Perform Bone Marrow Biopsies and assist with EEG/Continuous Monitoring.
Administer general medications and chemotherapy.
Utilize IV pumps and PCA pumps.
