About The Position

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning. Location Requirements This is a Market-based role supporting our Southeast Region. While the role offers flexibility in work location , to be considered a candidate must reside within the region the position supports (or have plans to relocate) to ensure strong local engagement and accessibility. Preferred location(s): Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Georgia Greater Carolinas (NC, SC) Greater DC & Maryland, Virginia & West Virginia Kentucky, Tennessee Florida Work is primarily performed remotely, however, when possible and necessary, teams meet in person to conduct the business of the organization and build team relationships. Job Summary: The MS Navigator builds empathetic, person-centered relationships with individuals affected by MS to support informed decision-making and proactive planning. The MS Navigator provides personalized coaching, delivers evidence-based education, and connects individuals to relevant resources. The position promotes health equity through culturally responsive practices and collaborates across teams to ensure coordinated support. The position uses technology effectively to manage relationships and contributes to innovation and continuous improvement, while balancing a dynamic caseload and participating in organizational initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Build Transformational Relationships: Develop and maintain long-term, person-centered relationships with individuals affected by MS, using empathy, trust, and mutual respect to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide Personalized Support and Coaching: Use critical thinking and problem-solving to help individuals identify goals, navigate challenges, and proactively plan for future needs along their MS journey.
  • Deliver MS Education and Resource Navigation: Share up-to-date, evidence-based information about MS, its symptoms, treatments, and management strategies to empower individuals and community groups.
  • Promote Health Equity and Cultural Responsiveness: Incorporate culturally responsive practices and demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
  • Leverage Society and Community Resources: Identify and connect individuals to appropriate local, state, and federal resources, as well as Society programs, to address needs and promote health and well-being.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with internal teams and external partners to ensure coordinated support and share insights that enhance service delivery.
  • Utilize Technology and Tools Effectively: Use Society platforms and digital tools to manage relationships, share resources, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Support Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay current with MS-related developments and contribute ideas to improve service delivery and address emerging needs.
  • Manage a Relationship Portfolio: Prioritize and balance a caseload of individuals while contributing to team responsibilities and organizational goals.
  • Participate in Organizational Engagement: Attend meetings, events, and training sessions to support the Society’s mission and foster a collaborative culture.
