About The Position

The Assistant Basketball Coach at Jefferson West Middle School will assist the head coach in developing and implementing an effective basketball program for student-athletes. This seasonal position involves fostering a positive and competitive environment while promoting the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among players. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to enhance the skills of the team and ensure a successful season.

Requirements

Previous coaching experience or significant playing experience at basketball games at the middle school or high school level preferred.
Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with players, parents, and staff.
Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential.
Commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including late evenings, during the basketball season.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
A background check will be required prior to employment per district policy.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Help the head coach plan and conduct daily practices and event strategies.
Organize and supervise team activities, including practices, events, and games.
Provide individual and group instruction to improve athletes' skills and performance.
Monitor and assess the progress of student-athletes, offering feedback and support.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during practices and games.
Assist in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes for the basketball program.
Collaborate with all coaches to maintain team discipline and uphold school policies.
Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team matters.
Attend all scheduled practices, games, and coaching meetings.
Promote a positive team culture and encourage sportsmanship among players.
