About The Position

MRI Technologist performs skilled work in Magnetic Resonance Imaging dealing with computerizes scans and using complex equipment in completing specialized diagnostic studies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with additional training in MR is required.
  • Valid Florida State license as a Radiology Technologist is required.
  • Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2017.
  • Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification.
  • Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all functions of an MRI Technologist I as required.
  • Maintains the flow of inpatients and outpatients within the department.
  • Assists the supervisor in the role of Safety Officer.
  • Reviews all prescreening forms with employees to ensure patient safety prior to exams.
  • Provides shift-to-shift reports—verbally or via email—regarding priority, STAT, and emergency cases, as well as any departmental irregularities (e.g., equipment issues requiring follow-up, unexpected staff absences).
  • Notifies the supervisor of any abnormalities that arise during the shift.
  • Reviews outpatient orders and triage status.
  • Reviews inpatient requisitions with the MRI Fellow to ensure the correct study is ordered.
  • Communicates with MRI Fellows regarding priority, STAT, and emergency cases scheduled during the shift.
  • Ensures technologists are in their assigned areas and following proper procedural protocols.
  • Ensures technologists assigned to a magnet respond to local calls from the reading room.
  • Assists in training students and new employees.
  • Contacts equipment service when needed and follows up on outstanding issues.
  • Resolves problems with pending exams in Cerner.
  • Reviews the worklist daily.
  • Performs daily QA to ensure high-quality imaging.
  • Identifies and corrects discrepancies or issues in PACS.
  • Assists the supervisor with implementing new imaging protocols.
  • Supports departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists the supervisor with ordering supplies.
  • Operates a magnet and provides lunch coverage as needed.
  • Collaborates with the MRI nurse and MSA to coordinate workflow.
  • Checks in and checks out appointments in Cerner as necessary.
  • Creates client billing encounters for outpatients.
  • Assumes supervisory duties in the supervisor's absence.
