About The Position

Under general supervision, the MRI Technologist is responsible for the coordination and administration of all MRI radiologic exams, ensuring technical quality and timely reporting of results. They must also ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies related to patient and employee safety, and support the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited school.
  • Minimum three years experience as a MRI Technologist.
  • Certification as a registered radiologic technologist (ARRT) required.
  • Current IV and CPR certifications required.
  • Certification in MRI.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality MRI exams on incoming patients.
  • Ensure patients are properly screened for safety concerns and/or contraindications for MRI exams, reporting concerns to the supervising radiologist and communicating to the requested health care provider.
  • Monitor patient's wellbeing during exams, recognizing and taking appropriate action for patient discomfort or medical problems, including providing a panic ball for communication.
  • Guide patients through the process by explaining steps and answering questions and concerns regarding exam procedures.
  • Respect a patient's right to refuse the examination.
  • Respond to physician questions and needs regarding patients.
  • Participate in projects and/or meetings, and complete other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Maintain professionalism and work within the Business Conduct standards alongside fellow technologists and other employees, utilizing professional and technical communication skills.
  • Ensure proper preventive and corrective maintenance for the MRI scanning unit.
  • Report any patient's need of medical attention, immediately reporting findings from emergency response to 911, the MR Imaging facility, and/or authorized representative.
  • Assist in patient movement to and from the wheelchair, bed, or gurney as needed.
  • Assure that all MRI scans are performed in accordance with established protocols and only upon the order of a lawfully authorized person. Refer ambiguous procedures or requisitions to the director of the MRI facility.
  • Teach MRI skillsets, practices, and share MRI-related knowledge to fellow technologists.
  • Perform necessary cleaning duties within the MRI work area, including chambers and related scanner equipment, to maintain infection control policies and procedures.
  • Perform automated data entry and all clerical duties related to exam/image processing and daily activities.
  • Perform a variety of MRI/MRA scans of the body in accordance with department protocols and supervising radiologist directions.
  • Administer contrast as needed, in a safe and effective manner.
