About The Position

The MRI Technologist is responsible for safely and proficiently performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures and related patient care according to government regulations, physician orders, policies and procedures of Imaging Services, and policies and procedures of the hospital.

Requirements

  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills with information technology associated with the position including a familiarity with sending/receiving email, related software, and use of EHR information tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to emergent or urgent situations.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of an AMA-approved, accredited Radiologic Technology (ARRT) program.
  • One (1) year of experience as a registered ARRT(R) Rad Tech required.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and proficiently.
  • Ability to multi-task constantly, react to changes quickly/productively, and tolerate interruptions.
  • Remain flexible, organized, professional and able to analyze, make sound decisions under stressful situations.
  • ARRT(R) certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS
  • For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing.
  • Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
  • As a condition of employment, vaccinations are required per DRH Policy.
  • Medical and Religious Exemptions are available upon request.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two (2) years of MRI Tech experience strongly preferred.
  • May have up to 1 year to earn MRI Certification with ARRT after date of hire or transfer.
  • May have up to 30 days to earn BLS after date of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes technical knowledge to appropriately care for patients relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Understands and follows established magnet safety rules.
  • Always screens any person entering the MRI scanning room for the presence of ferrous metal including patients, family members, physicians, nurses, hospital employees, housekeepers, and service personnel.
  • Keeps the room locked when the department is unattended to prevent accidental or unauthorized entry.
  • Verifies with patient and/or family and/or checks patient chart for indications of in-body metal.
  • Acquires screening x-rays if necessary to determine the presence of surgical clips, metal implants, pacemakers, and etc.
  • Carefully explains MRI procedures to gain patient confidence and cooperation and to reduce fear and claustrophobia.
  • Keeps patient informed of progress during the procedure.
  • Remains at the control station during scans, keeping the patient under observation.
  • Places patients in various coils properly.
  • Explains the purpose of the coil to the patient.
  • Consistently produces diagnostic quality scans without assistance or direct supervision.
  • Uses good judgment in seeking assistance or supervision when needed.
  • Consistently uses correct sequence protocols.
  • Shows ability to adapt imaging routines to special imaging situations.
  • Schedules patients using good judgment related to anticipated scan times.
  • Seeks workable solutions to scheduling and cancellation problems to prevent recurrence.
  • Accepts and adapts to unexpected changes or delays with a calm demeanor.
  • Works diligently and patiently to resolve problems and avoid conflict.
  • Operate equipment safely and proficiently.
  • Provides care to all patients according to policies, procedures, and patient care standards.
  • Follows regulations related to viewing or updating confidential patient health information.
  • Ensures correct record keeping.
  • Performs procedures following sterile practices.
  • Takes direction from physicians, providers and supervisors and follow through in a concise, efficient manner.
  • Seeks to form and maintain positive relations with physicians and their office staffs to gain their cooperation in scheduling
  • Prioritizes patient care and respond as directed by physician, provider, leadership, and/or clinic protocol.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by department leadership.
