About The Position

Ellis Medicine is seeking an MRI Radiology Technologist to utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the principles of MRI to safely and efficiently operate MRI scanners, assisting in the diagnosis of disease and injury. The technologist will ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors within the MRI Department ZONES and around the powerful magnetic field of an MRI scanner. Responsibilities include screening patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, providing emotional support, positioning patients, guiding and monitoring patients during scans, tracking and verifying studies, completing paperwork, monitoring PACS for problem studies, documenting on requisitions, keeping up-to-date with MRI protocols, and recognizing and responding to life-threatening situations. The role also involves acting as a team player and assisting in the education of other medical professionals and new staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Radiology Technology school
  • Current ARRT registry
  • Current New York State license of Radiologic Technology
  • Ability to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb.
  • Ability to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.
  • Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.
  • Ability to comprehend the spoken English language.
  • Ability to communicate and read the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • One year ARRT registry in MRI preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the principles of MRI to safely and efficiently operate MRI scanners, assisting in the diagnosis of disease and injury.
  • Ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors who come in contact with MRI Department ZONES and the powerful magnetic field of a MRI scanner.
  • Screen patients and explain procedures, answer patients' questions as fully as possible and provide emotional support, putting people at ease with claustrophobic and anxious patients.
  • Properly Position patients and use appropriate coils.
  • Guide and monitor patients during scans and pre/ post test inpatients.
  • Track, scan, verify studies and complete all required paperwork associated with such.
  • Monitor PACS for Problem Studies and Call Reports as a measure of default when a dedicated person is unable.
  • Document on requisition needed information.
  • Keep up to date with MRI protocols.
  • Rotate out of shift assignments for the greater good of the department, work weekends when scheduled or needed or change of shift when needed.
  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations.
  • Act as a team player and assist in the education of other medical professionals and new staff.
