About The Position

The Mowing Crew performs routine grounds maintenance throughout City of Holland parks and other assigned public spaces. Primary responsibilities include mowing, weed whipping, operating backpack blowers, maintaining equipment, and helping keep park properties safe, clean, and attractive. This position works as part of a field crew and is expected to complete assigned routes efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality and public service.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record for the operation of City vehicles.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, route assignments, equipment procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with dependable attendance and consistent productivity.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and provide helpful service when interacting with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled mowing and grounds maintenance in City parks and other assigned properties.
  • Operate riding mowers, zero turn mowers, walk behind mowers, weed whips, backpack blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Trim grass around trees, fences, signs, landscape beds, buildings, playgrounds, and other park amenities.
  • Remove grass clippings and debris from sidewalks, trails, parking areas, courts, plazas, and other paved surfaces.
  • Inspect assigned areas before mowing and remove litter, branches, stones, and other objects that could create a hazard or damage equipment.
  • Follow assigned mowing routes, work schedules, and quality expectations while adjusting work as directed by the Mowing Supervisor.
  • Inspect, clean, fuel, and complete routine operator maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Promptly report damage, mechanical problems, or unsafe conditions.
  • Load, unload, transport, and secure tools and equipment in accordance with City procedures and applicable safety requirements.
  • Use required personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices around vehicles, pedestrians, playgrounds, roadways, and other active public areas.
  • Report hazards, vandalism, damaged amenities, irrigation problems, and other maintenance needs observed while completing assigned work.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, park visitors, coworkers, supervisors, and other City employees.
  • Assist with other parks and grounds maintenance assignments as needed.
