About The Position

Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Mountain Sports Coordinator (MSC). The Mountain Sports program exists to augment the Western experience for over 100 athletes participating in the seven teams. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation – Mountain Sports (ADCR –MS) and works closely with the Mountain Sports coaches to support the development of Mountain Sports athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree
  • CPR & First Aid certification
  • Clean driving record and valid drivers license
  • Knowledge of, or ability in, competitive alpine skiing, nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, freeride skiing and snowboarding, rock climbing, trail running, or mountain biking.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Systems and strategic thinker, self-starter, resourceful, with an ability to multi-task, conduct market analysis, and develop marketing strategies and materials.
  • Data-driven decision making.
  • Relationship builder.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience driving and parking trailers.
  • Experience in fund-raising and securing business sponsorships, marketing and advertising, and recruiting.
  • Experience managing social media accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist coaches with coordination of team travel, including coordinating transportation, booking accommodations, creating spend authorizations and expense reports, and purchasing.
  • Schedule vehicles for team practices and travel.
  • Manage Mountain Sports registration.
  • Communicate with prospective students and work with Admissions to manage a prospective student database.
  • Travel to a few events per semester to recruit prospective student-athletes such as junior competitions in mountain sports.
  • Work with Marketing and Admissions to create and disperse regular prospective student communications.
  • Exercise analytical skills when reviewing and interpreting program data to determine recruitment strategies and best practices.
  • Create alumni communications in conjunction with the ADCR-MS to be sent out on a scheduled basis by the ADCR.
  • Assist with planning fundraising campaigns and create donor correspondence in collaboration with the ADCR-MS.
  • Oversee Mountain Sports social media accounts and create content plans with coaches and student social media coordinators.
  • Collaborate with the ADCR-MS & Marketing to determine and execute other marketing strategies and communications.
  • Oversee student work-study staff including hiring, scheduling, training, work review and evaluation, and disciplinary and corrective actions.
  • Attend Department of Campus Recreation and Division of Student Success meetings and related events and tasks.
