About The Position

The Mountain Safety Team will be our on-hill representation of safety and guest service. Attendants will provide positive educational feedback to guests in designated areas, as well as model correct behavior while skiing and riding. The goal will not be to enforce specific behaviors and/or correct individual behavior, but rather to have a positive influence on decision-making through loosely scripted communications and signage. These efforts will maintain an enjoyable environment for skiers and riders of all levels in specific areas of the resort. Attendants are expected to take ownership of their assigned areas and responsibilities, work independently with limited direct supervision, and use good judgment in their interactions with guests. Attendants are responsible for maintaining a visible and professional presence, completing assigned tasks, maintaining safety signage and materials, and communicating safety, guest service, or operational concerns to the appropriate Team Lead or Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English
  • Knowledge of Killington’s mountains/trails, facilities, products, services, customer service mission, and group activities
  • Must have a general understanding of the ski industry
  • Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day
  • Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and perform a variety of duties
  • Expert ability to ski or ride
  • Patience
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Must have excellent guest service skills and experience
  • Must be mature, reliable, and courteous
  • Positive work ethic
  • Ability to work with limited daily supervision when necessary
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other departments
  • Willingness to accept additional responsibilities and perform additional tasks as dictated by operational situations

Responsibilities

  • Promote an enjoyable experience for skiers and riders of all levels.
  • Positively influence on-hill culture with respect to safety, courtesy, and etiquette.
  • Educate guests on Your Responsibility Code, resort policies, and best practices.
  • Address and appropriately resolve customer behavior issues related to safe skiing and riding and adherence to Your Responsibility Code.
  • Provide courteous and knowledgeable guest service, including wayfinding and general resort information.
  • Maintain an active and visible presence in assigned areas and remain attentive to guest activity and changing conditions.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and complete required tasks with limited direct supervision.
  • Use sound judgment when responding to routine guest and operational situations and seek assistance when situations exceed the scope of the position.
  • Work closely with Ski Patrol, Ambassadors, and other departments to create an on-hill environment that meets our guests' expectations.
  • Maintain mountain safety signage and materials in assigned areas.
  • Provide courteous, accurate, and reliable information to guests regarding weather and ski reports, special events, activities, and general knowledge of the resort.
  • Communicate safety, guest service, and operational concerns to the appropriate Team Lead or Manager.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
