This mechanic position requires the individual to perform skilled mechanical work in one or more areas of vehicle repairs. Work involves exchanging/rebuilding engines, carburetors, transmissions, air and air hydraulic brakes and similar assembles. Individual will be required to do fundamental diagnostic electrical and cooling system repairs. Installation or repair of accessories to equipment and vehicles. Performs preventive maintenance schedules and complex service work on automotive and related gasoline and diesel engine powered equipment in a timely manner. Work also involves stationary and /or motorized equipment and motor vehicles. Individual must be able to perform routine jobs independently or assist in more complex jobs under close supervision. Performs good record keeping procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends. This position requires the individual to perform semi-skilled mechanical work in one or more areas of vehicle repairs. Work involves exchanging/rebuilding engines, carburetors, transmissions, air and air hydraulic brakes and similar assembles. Individual will be required to do fundamental diagnostic electrical and cooling system repairs. Installation or repair of accessories to equipment, and vehicles. Performs preventive maintenance schedules and routine service work on automotive and related gasoline and diesel engines powered equipment in a timely manner. Work also involves stationary and /or motorized equipment and motor vehicles. Individual must be able to perform routine jobs independently or assist in more complex jobs under close supervision. Performs good record keeping procedures. Work is performed in accordance with standard trade practices and departmental procedures. 1. General Automotive/Mechanical repairs; perform repairs, new installations on vehicles, Tire service, state inspections and preventive maintenance. 2. Maintains preventive maintenance schedules on fleet. 3. Service calls: Must follow guidelines and policies for reporting and making repairs ensuring individuals serve safety. 4. Safety: Must comply and act according to safety guidelines. 5. Licensure: Maintains a current valid license (s) and certifications in order to perform job duties. The facility will not allow instances of expirations of license required for the position. 6. Documentation completing documentation as required. 7. Communication: Must communicate effectively and work in harmony with other departments/Unit staff. 8. Initiative: willingly assume new and challenging assignments. 9. Flexibility and adaptability: effectively handles multiple responsibilities. 10. Professionalism and dependability: must be dependable and acts professional at all times. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Requirements

  • Experience and knowledge with diesel and gasoline engine powered equipment.
  • Verifiable experience as a mechanic.
  • Knowledge of Preventive Maintenance Schedules.
  • A current valid driver license and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet management policy.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or a GED.
  • Experience in automotive maintenance.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
