The Underwriter is responsible for underwriting residential mortgage loans to ensure compliance with bank, investor, and secondary market standards. This role involves communication with processors, originators, and other internal and external customers, as well as meeting performance standards and goals established by the bank. The position requires approving acceptable loans within maximum conforming and/or non-conforming lending limits. Essential duties include performing detailed underwriting analysis of all Truist Financial mortgage loan products, calculating income types, performing complex financial analysis, analyzing title reports and lien information, reviewing financial statements and all additional documentation prior to approval. The underwriter must ensure all loan files are documented to meet portfolio and investor guidelines for marketability and quality standards. A strong understanding of Mortgage Lending products, policies, processes, and required documentation is necessary, with demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following categories preferred: GSE, Government, Portfolio, and/or expertise in government lending. Loans must be adequately conditioned to meet product, policy, and process requirements. The role also requires adherence to all compliance regulations and controls, proactive and effective pipeline management to meet metrics, and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, business partners, and vendors. Additionally, the underwriter will cultivate relationships with peers as a mentor. Lending authority will be granted based on experience and mastery of the certification program and/or demonstrated proficiency in underwriting mortgage loans.
