Citizens Independent Bank is seeking a relationship-driven Mortgage Banker responsible for originating residential mortgage loans and developing long-term customer relationships within the communities served by the bank. This role serves as a trusted financial advisor by guiding customers through the home financing process and delivering exceptional service consistent with the values of Citizens Independent Bank. The Mortgage Banker actively promotes the bank’s mortgage products while supporting local community involvement and relationship-based banking.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of mortgage lending or consumer lending experience required.
  • NMLS registration required.
  • Strong knowledge of residential mortgage lending practices and underwriting guidelines.
  • Understanding of Minnesota and federal mortgage banking regulations.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong sales and business development abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple loan files simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with mortgage loan origination systems.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical banking practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with secondary market mortgage products and portfolio lending preferred.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota housing programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, financial advisors, attorneys, and community organizations throughout Minnesota communities served by the bank.
  • Generate new residential mortgage business through networking, community engagement, and customer referrals.
  • Interview applicants to determine financial objectives and assess mortgage financing needs.
  • Educate borrowers regarding mortgage loan products including conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, MHFA, and portfolio loan programs.
  • Collect, review, and analyze financial information including credit, income, assets, and collateral documentation.
  • Assist customers with mortgage applications, disclosures, and required documentation.
  • Structure mortgage loans in accordance with underwriting standards, investor guidelines, and bank policies.
  • Coordinate with processors, underwriters, appraisers, title companies, and closing agents to facilitate timely closings.
  • Maintain proactive communication with customers throughout the loan process to ensure a high-quality customer experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and Minnesota state lending regulations, including TRID, RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, and fair lending requirements.
  • Meet individual loan production goals while maintaining strong asset quality standards.
  • Cross-sell additional bank products and services to strengthen customer relationships.
  • Participate in local civic organizations, chamber events, and community activities to support the bank’s presence and reputation.
  • Maintain accurate loan documentation and customer records in accordance with bank policy and regulatory standards.
