About The Position

WILX-WSYM, the dominant news leader in Lansing, Michigan, is looking for an energetic Morning News Executive Producer/Anchor to join Lansing's #1-rated morning newscasts. We are seeking a versatile journalist with a strong on-air presence who can connect with our morning viewers and help lead our multi-platform coverage. The ideal candidate must be a newsroom leader who brings strong editorial instincts, collaborates effectively with the morning news team, and excels at reporting. This position anchors our morning newscasts on both broadcast and streaming platforms while also delivering original reporting that drives our on-air and digital audience.

Requirements

  • At least two years of professional television news anchoring and reporting experience.
  • Proven ability to manage, motivate, and collaborate with a diverse team of journalists and production professionals under tight deadlines.
  • Strong news judgment, deep knowledge of journalism ethics, and excellent writing skills for on-air and digital platforms.
  • Excellent on-air presence, exceptional ad-libbing skills, and a calm, decisive demeanor during live breaking news and unscripted coverage.
  • Experience with standard newsroom computer systems (such as ENPS), non-linear video editing (such as Edius), website content publishing, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work a demanding early-morning schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the morning news team — including anchors, reporters, producers, and photographers — to ensure high standards of journalism, production quality, and brand consistency.
  • Oversee the daily editorial direction of the morning newscasts. Collaborate closely with producers and co-anchors to shape daily content, review scripts, and deliver dynamic newscasts.
  • Coach and mentor newsroom staff, providing constructive feedback.
  • Anchor morning newscasts with high energy, credibility, authority, and a conversational delivery tailored to morning viewers.
  • Pitch, research, write, and produce compelling local news stories.
  • Deliver live reports from the field and in-studio during breaking news and severe weather events.
  • Publish engaging, timely content to the station’s website, mobile app, and social media channels.
  • Conduct live interviews with local newsmakers, community leaders, and experts.
  • Represent the station professionally at community events and station initiatives.
  • Maintain a collaborative, team-first attitude in the newsroom.
  • Other duties as assigned.
