About The Position

The Morning News Editor will be responsible for writing and crafting newscasts for KOA's morning news block, as well as providing local, regional, and national news content to the 24/7 News Wire. This is a full-time opportunity requiring availability and a desire to work early mornings. The role is part of the Rocky Mountain Region of 24/7 News.

Requirements

  • Must have strong news writing and story selection skills.
  • Must know how to assemble stories in a newscast in a logical order.
  • Must be willing to work early, pre-dawn hours.
  • Strong social media skills including email, writing/posting for Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram.
  • Excellent writing and editing ability; excellent grammar.
  • Strong time management skills; adept at setting priorities and managing deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable and up to date with local, regional, and national trends.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in media production (primarily audio) and broadcast systems.
  • 3+ years’ experience in on-air journalism in smaller market or college station.
  • 4-year college degree, preferably in Broadcast Journalism or Communications

Responsibilities

  • Write clear, concise news copy.
  • Assemble stories into newscast under intense deadline pressure.
  • Produce, edit and write content for 24/7 Newswire.
  • Post news and video content to newsroom social media platforms.
  • Gather audio from press conferences, live events and partner TV stations.
  • Produce short-form reports (voicers/wraps) for anchors on the following shift.
  • May be called on to anchor breaking news reports as needed.
  • General newsroom responsibilities and duties as assigned.
