About The Position

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as a teacher for upper elementary students. This position will start in August 2026. Any elementary endorsed applicant (K-6) is encouraged to apply. Montessori certification or willingness to obtain Montessori certification is required. This is a pool posting. Requirements

  • Valid Iowa teaching license
  • Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
  • Willingness to obtain Montessori certification

Nice To Haves

  • Previous classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in an urban school district.
  • Montessori certification

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
  • Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
  • Monitor student learning on a daily basis.
  • Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
