About The Position

The University of Notre Dame’s Operations, Events, and Safety division is hiring temporary/on-call Monitors for the Shields Athletic Dining Facility in its Campus Dining department. The Monitor is a front-of-house position that welcomes guests and supports the mission and goals of a “Best in Class” dining program by providing a warm, friendly atmosphere and responding to guests’ needs. The role includes verifying eligibility for meal service, monitoring dining room activity and overcrowding, preventing unauthorized entry or guests leaving with excessive food, and helping maintain the dining hall’s cleanliness.

Requirements

• Manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
• Be positive, respectful, and committed to the schedule created.
• Have excellent communication and listening skills.
• Be able to stand for extended periods, up to six hours at a time.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome students, faculty, staff, and guests as they enter the dining hall in a friendly and professional manner.
• Verify meal plans, student IDs, or other authorized access and ensure entry protocols are followed.
• Monitor dining room activity to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment; promptly address spills, hazards, or disruptive behavior.
• Circulate through the dining area to answer general inquiries, direct patrons to stations, and address minor concerns.
• Enforce dining hall policies, including rules about outside food and waste disposal, by politely reminding patrons as needed.
• Help keep dining tables and chairs clean during service by wiping surfaces as needed.
• Immediately report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or significant incidents to dining hall management.
• Maintain a visible and helpful presence to support a positive dining experience.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.
