About The Position

The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety division is hiring temporary/on-call Monitors for Shields Athletic Dining Facility in the Campus Dining department. The Monitor is a front-of-house position that welcomes guests and supports the mission and goals of a “Best in Class” dining program by creating a warm, friendly atmosphere and responding to guest needs. The role verifies student eligibility for meal service, monitors overcrowding, prevents unauthorized entry and guests leaving with excessive food, and helps maintain dining hall cleanliness.

Requirements

• Manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
• Be positive, respectful, and committed to the schedule created.
• Have excellent communication and listening skills.
• Be able to stand for extended periods, up to 6 hours at a time.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome students, faculty, staff, and guests upon entry in a friendly and professional manner.
• Verify meal plans, student IDs, or other authorized access for individuals entering the dining hall and ensure proper entry protocols are followed.
• Monitor dining room activity to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment; promptly address spills, hazards, or disruptive behavior.
• Circulate throughout the dining area to answer general inquiries, direct patrons to stations, and address minor concerns.
• Ensure compliance with dining hall policies, including policies on outside food and waste disposal, by politely reminding patrons as needed.
• Help maintain clean dining tables and chairs during service hours by wiping down surfaces as needed.
• Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or significant incidents to dining hall management immediately.
• Maintain a visible and helpful presence to support a positive dining experience.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.
