About The Position

At Joyous Ventures, we provide immediate and compassionate support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or crisis. Our services are delivered by a dedicated Social Services Team that helps participants navigate complex systems and access vital resources. We assist participants with: Healthcare access—including identifying a medical home, dental care, and wellness programs; Linkages to mental health and substance use services; Benefit enrollment—including health insurance and income support; In-house mental health counseling, therapy, and support groups addressing emotional well-being and relationship challenges; Life skills development to foster independence; Community reintegration through social activities, resource connections, and community engagement; Transportation and accompaniment services; Other essential services to promote housing stability. These services are critical to enhancing the well-being, dignity, and empowerment of individuals in our care. Joyous Ventures plays a vital role in addressing social, economic, and health-related challenges—ultimately contributing to the strength and resilience of the community. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Monitor to join our mission-driven team. In this role, you’ll provide direct support to residents while ensuring their rights are respected and upheld in a safe and secure environment. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness—all within a collaborative and supportive team setting.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience, preferably in a homeless shelter or related setting
  • Ability to think clearly and act decisively under pressure
  • Commitment to fairness, prevention, and de-escalation
  • Basic computer skills (for incident reporting and camera system navigation)
  • Experience in human services strongly preferred
  • Food Handler Certification
  • BLS/CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Enforce Joyous Ventures’ rules and regulations consistently
  • Uphold policies around alcohol/drug use, harassment, and participant conduct
  • Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents (e.g., theft, accidents, medical needs)
  • Treat all participants with dignity, fairness, and respect
  • De-escalate conflicts with support from the Program Manager and Clinical Social Worker
  • Support conflict prevention and risk-reduction strategies
  • Manage emergency situations, including contacting law enforcement when necessary
  • Participate in trainings on trauma-informed care, racial and gender sensitivity, homelessness, and safeguarding
  • Monitor security cameras to ensure ongoing safety
  • Complete accurate, timely incident reports
  • Change locks and manage key systems as needed
