About The Position

The University of Notre Dame’s Operations, Events, and Safety division is hiring part-time Monitors for campus and auxiliary dining halls within Campus Dining. The Monitor is a front-of-house position that welcomes guests and supports the mission and goals of a “Best in Class” dining program by helping create a warm, friendly atmosphere and responding to diners’ needs. The role verifies eligibility for meal service, monitors dining hall activity and overcrowding, helps prevent unauthorized access and excessive food from being taken out, and contributes to a clean and orderly dining environment.

Requirements

• Manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
• Be positive, respectful, and committed to the schedule created.
• Have excellent communication and listening skills.
• Be able to stand for extended periods, up to six hours at a time.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome students, faculty, staff, and guests upon entry in a friendly and professional manner.
• Verify meal plans, student IDs, or other authorized access and follow proper entry protocols.
• Monitor dining room activity to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment; promptly address spills, hazards, or disruptive behavior.
• Circulate through the dining area to answer general questions, direct patrons to stations, and address minor concerns.
• Enforce dining hall policies, including rules on outside food and waste disposal, by politely reminding patrons as needed.
• Help maintain clean tables and chairs during service by wiping down surfaces as needed.
• Immediately report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or significant incidents to dining hall management.
• Maintain a visible, helpful presence that contributes to a positive dining experience.
• Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products.
