About The Position

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas is seeking a dependable and attentive Monitor Technician to provide continuous observation of patients’ cardiac and respiratory rhythms. This position plays a critical role in patient safety by recognizing rhythm changes, responding appropriately to alarms, and promptly communicating concerns to the nursing team. The Monitor Technician will also provide Unit Secretary support as needed; however, continuous and accurate patient monitoring remains the position’s highest priority. Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas provides specialized inpatient medical, rehabilitation, and neurobehavioral care for children and adolescents with complex healthcare needs. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current telemetry or cardiac-monitoring certification, or an equivalent credential, required.
Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required.
Must maintain all required certifications in good standing throughout employment or obtain required facility-approved certification within 30 days of hire.
Must obtain a current tuberculosis screening within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
The ideal candidate is focused, detail-oriented, and able to remain attentive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritize patient safety while working collaboratively with nurses and other members of the care team.

Nice To Haves

At least six months of experience in a hospital or rehabilitation setting preferred.
At least one year of experience as a Telemetry Technician or Monitor Technician preferred.
Experience recognizing cardiac rhythms, arrhythmias, and emergency rhythm changes strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Continuously observe and interpret patients’ cardiac and respiratory rhythms.
Identify emergency rhythms, arrhythmias, baseline changes, and other abnormalities requiring immediate attention.
Promptly notify the appropriate RN, LVN, or charge nurse of rhythm changes, alarms, or unusual patient circumstances.
Maintain ongoing communication with nursing staff regarding monitor status and relevant patient information.
Verify alarm limits at the beginning of each shift and adjust or recheck them throughout the shift as needed.
Apply monitor leads and electrodes using bedside monitors or portable transmitters.
Accurately admit and discharge patients within the monitoring system.
Establish patient-specific alarm parameters as directed.
Complete accurate shift reports and communicate essential information to the oncoming Monitor Technician.
Initiate Code Blue or Rapid Response procedures at the direction of nursing staff.
Ensure critical laboratory results are promptly communicated to the patient’s assigned nurse when necessary.
Complete all required monitoring and patient-care documentation each shift.
Prioritize monitoring responsibilities while assisting visitors and supporting unit operations.
Receive incoming facility calls and provide professional service to internal and external customers.
Maintain a clean, organized, and functional work environment.
Assist with training new staff members as directed.
Accept direction from supervisors and members of the management team in a positive and professional manner.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
