About The Position

The Monitor Technician is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The role monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors and meets the department’s communication needs. The technician may transcribe physician orders when CPOE and the EMR clinical documentation system are unavailable, verify that lab and radiology tests have been ordered and completed, and prepare and compile records in Med/Surg/Telemetry. The role also orders unit supplies and prepares and completes each patient’s chart with necessary forms on a daily basis. The Monitor Technician may assist nursing staff with indirect patient-care duties as long as this does not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring. Direct patient care may be provided under the direct supervision of an RN within the scope of Certified Nursing Assistant duties only if the technician has active CNA certification, demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills, and is relieved of Monitor Technician duties while assisting the RN.
