About The Position

The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed person who provides indirect care in the department and monitors cardiac rhythms through direct cardiac monitors. The role meets the department’s communication needs and, when CPOE and the EMR clinical documentation system are unavailable, transcribes physician orders. The Monitor Tech verifies that laboratory and radiology tests have been ordered and completed; prepares and compiles records in Med/Surg/Telemetry; orders unit supplies; and prepares and completes patient charts with the forms needed each day. The Monitor Tech may assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties provided this does not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring. Direct patient care may be provided under the direct supervision of an RN and within the scope of Certified Nursing Assistant duties only when the employee has active CNA certification, demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills, and is relieved of Monitor Technician duties while assisting the RN.
