About The Position

Monitor Techs observe and provide routine analysis of cardiac rhythms displayed on a telemetry monitor. They demonstrate knowledge of life-threatening arrhythmias and aberrancies, inform the assigned nurse, and initiate appropriate action. They demonstrate competency in all functions of the telemetry monitoring system and perform clerical and secretarial duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

• Associate degree.
• One year of Monitor Technician experience.

Responsibilities

• Examine heartbeat patterns and observe and monitor patients' heart monitors for abnormalities, including irregular heartbeats, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest.
• Maintain records and documentation of cardiac rhythms.
• Clean and maintain heart monitors and other equipment, and ensure the monitors function correctly.
• Record patients' vital signs to provide a baseline for patient records during inpatient care.
• Perform accurate and timely order entry, retrieve testing results, and manage charts, including their preparation and maintenance.
• Interpret test results and report changes in heart readings or EKGs to the physician or nurse in charge of the patient.
• Assist with training new staff on medical monitoring systems.
