About The Position

Torch Technologies is seeking an experienced Mid-Level Modeling & Simulation Software Engineer to join the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Simulation (IAMDSIM) software development team. The role designs, develops, and integrates real-time and digital simulation models into a larger distributed system-of-systems simulation. The team supports the full simulation lifecycle, including preprocessing scripts, integration of tactical models, development of supporting simulation models, and post-processing data-analysis libraries. The engineer will work with engineers and technical personnel to develop and maintain modeling and simulation infrastructure, integrate missile defense component models into larger simulation environments, and support verification, validation, analysis, and delivery of reliable simulation products. The position requires strong software-development experience, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively. Work is at a customer site, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; travel is 0–10%. The position is not contingent upon a contract award, and relocation assistance is not available.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five years of applicable software design engineering experience.
  • Experience developing software using Java and C++.
  • Experience developing, integrating, testing, and analyzing software applications, component models, or simulations.
  • Proficiency using Git for source-code version control, collaborative development, branch management, and software configuration management.
  • Experience using Docker containers to package, deploy, configure, or maintain software applications and development or simulation environments.
  • Ability to develop and maintain software interfaces and integrate component-level software into larger systems or simulation environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve software-development, integration, test, deployment, and performance issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment and collaborate with engineers, analysts, and technical support personnel.
  • Must have an active security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency developing or maintaining software using C++, Java, or Python.
  • Experience supporting missile defense modeling and simulation software-development activities, especially digital or “As Fast As Possible” system-of-systems simulations.
  • Previous software-development experience supporting missile defense command-and-control systems.
  • Experience with the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), Patriot, LTAMDS, IFPC, or related air and missile defense systems.
  • Experience working in classified, secure, or government customer environments.
  • Experience with automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, or other modern software-development practices.
  • Experience analyzing large system-of-systems outputs to evaluate performance and identify, track, and communicate performance issues.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, and maintain software applications, component models, and simulation services supporting missile defense modeling and simulation activities.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain modeling and simulation infrastructure, development environments, interfaces, tools, and support services needed to execute missile defense simulations.
  • Integrate missile defense component models into larger simulation environments; develop and maintain software interfaces; and resolve interoperability, data-exchange, and execution issues.
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, regression, and system-level tests to verify software functionality, model behavior, interface compatibility, and simulation performance.
  • Investigate, diagnose, document, and resolve complex software, model, interface, build, deployment, and runtime issues.
  • Use Docker containers to package, configure, deploy, and maintain software applications and modeling and simulation environments.
  • Use Git and established configuration-management processes to manage source code, maintain version history, support collaborative development, and control software releases.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and other technical personnel to define software requirements, implement technical solutions, analyze simulation results, and deliver customer-required products.
