About The Position

Astrion is seeking a Modeling Simulation Engineer to support NSWCDD in Dahlgren, Virginia. The role develops, analyzes, and validates complex mathematical simulations and models for ballistic missile trajectories, weapon system error analysis, and real-time embedded or distributed processing environments. The engineer supports validated modeling products that inform strategic and weapon-system mission decisions. The posting identifies the opportunity as Senior in the overview, while the supplied title identifies it as Associate Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline; or ten years of demonstrated knowledge base and subject matter expertise relevant to the technical disciplines of the SOW and the system supported.
  • Ten years of demonstrated experience developing complex mathematical equations for large-scale simulations.
  • Experience with aerodynamics as applied to ballistic missile trajectory simulations.
  • Experience with weapon system error analysis and optimal estimation theory.
  • Experience using higher-level computer languages to develop complex mathematical simulations and models for ballistic missile trajectories.
  • Experience using structured programming techniques and Program Design Languages.
  • Experience with numerical methods and analysis using large-scale general-purpose computers.
  • Experience developing database programs or programs with advanced data structures.
  • Experience developing or performing quality assurance of large-scale simulation programs, such as 3- and 6-degree-of-freedom ballistic missile trajectory simulation models.
  • Experience developing or performing quality assurance of operating systems for real-time embedded computer systems.
  • Experience developing large-scale programs on systems using distributed processing and multitasking.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the DoD/Navy clearance required by the final DD254/JPAS.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ballistic missile trajectory models, strategic weapon systems, and advanced simulation validation.
  • Experience with digital computer circuitry design, digital network design, or circuitry connecting peripheral equipment to digital computers.
  • Experience supporting Navy or DoD modeling, simulation, analysis, verification, validation, or quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex mathematical equations for large-scale simulations.
  • Apply aerodynamics concepts to ballistic missile trajectory simulations.
  • Perform weapon system error analysis and apply optimal estimation theory.
  • Use higher-level computer languages to develop complex mathematical simulations and models for ballistic missile trajectories.
  • Apply structured programming techniques and Program Design Languages.
  • Use numerical methods and analysis on large-scale general-purpose computers to solve complex mathematical problems.
  • Develop database programs or other programs with heavy emphasis on advanced data structures.
  • Develop or support quality assurance of large-scale simulation programs, including 3- and 6-degree-of-freedom ballistic missile trajectory simulation models.
  • Develop or support quality assurance of operating systems for real-time embedded computer systems.
  • Develop large-scale programs on systems using distributed processing and multitasking.
  • Support digital computer circuitry design, digital network design, and circuitry design to connect peripheral equipment to digital computers, as assigned.
