Modeling Simulation & Analysis Engineer 3 or 4 (Principal or Sr. Principal Level)

Northrop Grumman•El Segundo, CA
•$95,300 - $206,000

About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer at the Principal or Senior Principal level for its Systems Engineering organization. The role may be located in El Segundo, California, and supports Research & Advanced Design, which develops advanced aircraft and collaborative autonomous capabilities through concept design, prototyping, demonstrations, and technical research. The engineer provides technical leadership in small collaborative teams conducting research and analysis, developing models and scenarios, and analyzing systems across multiple domains, including friendly and adversary ground, air, and space systems. The work informs clean-sheet and existing system requirements and future technologies and capabilities. The engineer collaborates with air vehicle and subsystem engineers, program leaders, and customers to recommend designs and develop Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) at system, mission, and campaign levels. The position develops or integrates simulation frameworks, performance and threat models, algorithms, and command-and-control models. It also involves software and analytical tool development, operational and mission effectiveness analysis, mission engineering, and communicating analysis results to stakeholders and leadership. The role requires an active Secret or higher U.S. Government clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret and SAP clearances. Travel is 10% of the time; relocation assistance may be available.

  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: foreign-threat research, analysis, and assessment; operations modeling and simulation of radars, missiles, IADS, or air, sea, and/or space platforms; mission-level analysis of survivability, lethality, vulnerability, and engagement; Low Observables; modeling and analysis of RF, IR, EO, and/or acoustic signals; modeling and analysis of electronic attack, electronic protection, and/or electronic countermeasures; or friendly/adversary CONOPs and tactics.

Nice To Haves

  • Operational military background or experience as a fighter or bomber pilot, Electronic Warfare Officer/Weapons Systems Officer, Air Battle Manager, Intelligence Officer, or Joint Duty Officer.
  • Familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, and/or system architecture.
  • Effective project management skills and good communication.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, or GitLab.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presenting and briefing technical data to organizational and U.S. Government leadership at all levels.
  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.
  • Experience in at least two of the listed technical areas: foreign-threat research and assessment; operations modeling and simulation of radars, missiles, IADS, or air, sea, and/or space platforms; mission-level survivability, lethality, vulnerability, and engagement analysis; Low Observables; RF, IR, EO, and/or acoustic modeling and analysis; electronic attack, electronic protection, and/or electronic countermeasures modeling and analysis; or friendly/adversary CONOPs and tactics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in the technical execution of systems analysis and simulation tasks and projects.
  • Develop software and analytical tools to model system behavior in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Develop, integrate, and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.
  • Model operational environments, conduct computer-simulation trade studies, and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Perform operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
  • Create and apply knowledge of TTPs to support blue/red kill chains across security environments, programs, architectures, and platforms.
  • Model and analyze blue/red tactics and CONOPs in mission-level models to support program development, execution, and research and development objectives.
  • Perform mission engineering to maintain continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance through the Systems Engineering “V.”
  • Trade system and architecture performance capabilities against cost and mission requirements, develop operationally relevant mission scenarios, and assess the operational effectiveness of existing and emerging capabilities in representative operational environments.
  • Solicit stakeholder input, synthesize data, and communicate results to organizational leadership.
  • Develop advanced data-analysis visualization tool sets.
  • Develop or integrate system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models, and command-and-control models.
  • Conduct research and analysis and develop models and scenarios across system types and domains.
