About The Position

Furientis is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Engineer for its Seeker Team, which develops the eyes and targeting logic for a low-cost, mass-producible, multimodal missile seeker. This role builds the environments and encounters in which the seeker trains and operates. The engineer is responsible for the scenario space: creating physics-correct worlds and staged encounters that provide deliberate coverage for the algorithms team. The role owns the physics correctness of the world; rendering it at volume is assigned to the Seeker Data and Tooling Engineer. The position involves creating terrain from real geospatial data, atmospheres, backgrounds, clutter, target sets, kinematics, behaviors, countermeasures, and engagement timelines. Scenarios should be generated procedurally at scale, with coherent variants and reproducible builds. The engineer owns scenario coverage, identifies gaps, determines field data collection conditions, and delivers versioned, reproducible encounter sets for hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) and evaluation. This is an on-site role at Furientis's Los Angeles headquarters; remote work is not available. Monthly weekend travel is required for test events and supplier engagements. A security clearance is not required, but candidates must be U.S. Persons and eligible to access export-controlled information. The team is small, deeply technical, AI-native, and expects engineers to work across role boundaries and contribute to its AI-centric workflow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience building synthetic environments or scenarios in game development, simulation, autonomous vehicles, or defense.
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal, Unity, Blender, or an equivalent, including C++ or C# scripting for Unreal or Unity.
  • Fluency in procedural generation, including parameterized worlds, seeded variation, and reproducible builds.
  • Geospatial data experience, including DTED, imagery, map projections, and careful coordinate-system handling.
  • Modern Python skills and experience creating reviewable, repeatable pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Git version control.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to access export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IR scene generation or EO/IR sensor simulation.
  • Countermeasure modeling experience.
  • Experience with 6-DOF trajectory and kinematics modeling.
  • Military operational background or experience in wargaming and scenario design.
  • Hands-on experience with a scene and encounter framework such as DIRSIG or FLITES, or an equivalent.
  • Daily use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, with examples of shipped work.
  • Rust programming experience.
  • Knowledge of target and threat behavior sufficient to stage realistic encounters.

Responsibilities

  • Build environments using real geospatial data, including terrain, atmospheres, backgrounds, and mission-representative clutter.
  • Build encounters consisting of target sets, kinematics and behaviors, countermeasure employment, and engagement timelines.
  • Create procedural generation systems that produce thousands of coherent variants per scenario family.
  • Own scenario coverage across aspect angles, ranges, conditions, and countermeasures, and identify coverage gaps proactively.
  • Define the field data collection matrix, including which real-world conditions should be collected and why.
  • Deliver versioned, reproducible encounter sets to HWIL and evaluation.
  • Ensure the physics correctness of modeled worlds and provide the modeling and simulation sign-off.
  • Contribute to the team's AI-centric workflow and provide input on the governance and use of agentic coding tools.
  • Travel monthly on weekends for test events and supplier engagements.
