About The Position

The Model Maker 1 fabricates prototype parts from sketches and prints and assembles engineering prototype units for testing in engineering labs. Working within well-defined instructions and processes under guidance, this role creates basic parts and assembles them into working prototypes and 3D models of new designs or product improvements for testing and evaluation of fit and function. The position also maintains an organized workstation, follows safety and quality procedures, and performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of progressive experience with model making or equivalent work experience.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Good communication skills and basic math skills.
• Ability to work with basic materials.
• Basic assembly tool knowledge.
• Basic print reading and understanding.
• Basic brazing skills with different materials.
• Basic machine setup and operating knowledge.
• Basic product knowledge and basic coil circuiting.
• Basic CAD drawing and machine programming skills.
• Basic machine maintenance knowledge.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn to operate a 3D printer.
• Able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Physical ability to frequently sit, stand, and walk; stand or sit for long periods; use manual dexterity, fine motor skills, visual acuity, and a full range of motion; reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch; and lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to operate light tools and basic machinery.

Nice To Haves

• Machinist classes, sheet metal classes, vocational training, or certifications preferred.
• Welding certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machines to bore, cut, drill, form, grind, mill, shape, and turn materials.
• Assemble, fit, and adjust components, details, and mechanisms to achieve accurate alignment, clearance, relationships, and operation.
• Fabricate parts from prints, sketches, devices, or recommendations.
• Support the building of prototype and developmental units for testing and evaluation of design fit and function.
• Create basic parts and assemble them into working prototypes and 3D models of new designs or product improvements.
• Maintain an organized workstation and practice good housekeeping.
• Follow safety standards, policies, and practices, as well as company standards and quality control procedures.
• Perform other job duties as needed and required.
