About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises is hiring a Model-Based Systems Engineer, contingent upon prime contractor approval, to work in Huntsville, Alabama, in the Targets and Countermeasures program office. The role applies systems engineering principles within a digital engineering framework to create, analyze, and maintain system architecture models. The engineer collaborates with government leads, prime contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams to trace requirements, model behavioral and structural architectures, and support technical baseline reviews. The position develops and maintains SysML models that capture system behaviors, structure, interfaces, and operational requirements across Missile Defense Agency programs. It maps system- and component-level requirements to architecture artifacts and supports end-to-end traceability, verification matrices, and baseline integrity. The engineer also supports MDA Digital Engineering initiatives by linking MBSE models with external tools, simulations, and data repositories. Additional work includes preparing and presenting model-centric artifacts for program milestone reviews, conducting architectural trade studies, analyzing interface definition documents, modeling interfaces to identify gaps and integration risks, and maintaining model version control and configuration baseline compliance according to program data management standards. The position requires an active Secret clearance and the ability to maintain it. Travel is minimal, at 10% or less. The role includes prolonged periods sitting or standing, computer work, moving between worksites, communicating with others, and light work involving objects up to 20 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 7 years supporting missile defense or large-scale, complex DoD programs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SysML and core systems engineering frameworks, including DoDAF and UAF.
  • Hands-on experience with industry-standard MBSE modeling tools, such as Cameo Systems Modeler/Cameo Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Ability to distill complex system architectures into clear, concise diagrams, technical documentation, and briefings for multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Active Secret clearance and ability to maintain it.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials by the position start date if domestic air travel or access to secure federal facilities or military bases requires them.
  • Ability to meet applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include background investigation, employment and education verification, drug screening, driving record review, security-clearance eligibility, and government installation access.
  • Ability to remain stationary, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods and to sit and work at a computer for long periods.
  • Ability to move about to accomplish tasks or move between worksites, communicate to exchange information, and perform light work moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting MDA programs such as Targets and Countermeasures, Ground-Based Midcourse Defense, THAAD, Aegis BMD, or C2BMC.
  • OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) certification at the Fundamental, Intermediate, or Advanced level.
  • Working knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS or Cameo Requirements Plugin and issue-tracking platforms such as Jira or Confluence.
  • Experience integrating MBSE models with analytical or simulation environments such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or OpenMBEE.
  • Familiarity with DoD Systems Engineering processes, CDRLs, and technical baseline governance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain descriptive system models using SysML to capture system behaviors, structure, interfaces, and operational requirements across MDA programs.
  • Map system-level and component-level requirements to architecture artifacts, maintaining end-to-end traceability, verification matrices, and baseline integrity.
  • Support implementation of MDA Digital Engineering initiatives by linking MBSE models with external tools, simulations, and data repositories.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting model-centric artifacts for program milestone reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and CCBs.
  • Conduct architectural trade studies, analyze interface definition documents (IDDs/ICDs), and model system interfaces to identify gaps and resolve integration risks.
  • Maintain version control and configuration baseline compliance for SysML models in accordance with program data management standards.
  • Collaborate with government leads, prime contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams to trace requirements, model architectures, and support technical baseline reviews.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision options.
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Education reimbursement.
  • Company-paid holidays.
  • Paid time off (PTO).
