Model-Based Systems Engineer - Digital Transformation

Ford•Dearborn, MI
•$99,600 - $192,900•Hybrid

About The Position

Ford’s Product Development organization is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer for its Digital Transformation team. The role supports digital tools and processes for systems engineering and failure mode avoidance through implementation, customization, and support of enterprise tools such as CATIA Magic (MagicDraw/Cameo) and Teamwork Cloud (TWC). The engineer will contribute across the MBSE tools and methods lifecycle, from evaluating processes to implementing software integrations that support concurrent product development across Ford’s global Product Development organization. Working with Enterprise Technology partners and global engineering teams, the role develops tool enhancements and integrations, manages server collaboration, and advances adoption of MBSE. The position also supports digital execution of Failure Mode Avoidance processes and research and implementation of emerging technologies, including generative AI solutions and SysML V2. The position is hybrid; candidates within commuting distance of a Ford hub may be required to work onsite four or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, such as Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and SysML.
  • Advanced, hands-on expertise with MagicDraw/CATIA Magic and Teamwork Cloud (TWC).
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing domain-specific languages (DSLs) and MagicDraw profiles.
  • Working knowledge of SAE J1739 Failure Mode Avoidance disciplines and CATIA Magic integrations.
  • Experience providing technical user support, issue management, and training or mentoring in SysML, MBSE, or CATIA Magic.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, such as Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • At least 5 years of systems engineering and model-based systems engineering experience.
  • OMG SysML and/or INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP/CSEP) certification.
  • Deep understanding of SysML model composition, architecture patterns, and collaboration best practices.
  • Experience as a Lead Systems Engineer on a major MBSE project and/or leading MBSE adoption and deployment at organizational or large-project scale.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML principles, integrations, and deployment within engineering tools, such as AI-assisted modeling.
  • Familiarity with SysML V2 and the RAAML standard.
  • Experience with Agile/SAFe methodologies, Jira backlog maintenance, and requirements management tools.
  • Experience with the 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX/CATIA) environment and MagicDraw/CATIA Magic connectors or integrations, such as Data Hub.

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and maintain custom Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) and MagicDraw/CATIA Magic profiles aligned with Ford engineering standards and Failure Mode Avoidance methodologies.
  • Work with the tool vendor on plugin and integration development, deployment, and tool lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and IT partners to integrate MBSE tools with enterprise systems and expand interoperability with CAD, requirements, and CAE tools.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and technical mentorship to product development teams to support adoption and deployment of MBSE methodologies and CATIA Magic.
  • Support Quality and Robustness Workstreams by ensuring MBSE models and processes support SAE J1739 Failure Mode Avoidance disciplines and the RAAML standard, including digital execution of DFMEAs, Boundary and P-Diagrams, and Robustness Checklists.
  • Support the transformation of Failure Mode Avoidance processes from document-based to model-based execution.
  • Provide user support, manage issues, troubleshoot modeling and integration challenges, and deliver continuous enhancements for the enterprise MBSE tool suite.
  • Support Enterprise Technology teams with Teamwork Cloud infrastructure activities, including server upgrades and performance improvements.
  • Create, maintain, and update training documentation, modeling guidelines, and learning materials.
  • Research and implement emerging technical capabilities, including generative AI-driven solutions and SysML V2, to accelerate modeling and improve model quality.
