The Mobility Technician assists patients with activities of daily living and supports the healthcare team by collecting, reporting, and documenting patient data. The role focuses on providing care based on individual needs to maintain patient and family satisfaction. Mobility Technicians systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of their assigned duties, maintain current knowledge, and assess their practice in relation to applicable standards and regulations. They interact with and support peers, provide sensitive and culturally competent care, collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers, and communicate effectively with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Secondary duties may include supporting ordering processes, helping maintain medical records, greeting and directing guests to appropriate resources, and ordering departmental supplies responsibly. The technician also assists nursing and physician therapy staff in prioritizing patient mobility—including ambulation, transfers, toileting, and use of special equipment—and documenting care, with the aim of reducing length of stay, mortality, the need for extended rehabilitation or home health services, and overall healthcare costs.
