About The Position

Dscout is hiring a hands-on Mobile Principal Software Engineer to lead its mobile team and evolve the participant experience for a shift toward a full AI-first platform. The role combines mobile leadership and product engineering with work across backend services, APIs, and the broader participant platform. The engineer will help the team deliver quickly using AI coding agents while making sound choices between rapid prototypes and durable technical foundations. The position partners closely with Product and Design, shapes product and technical direction, mentors engineers, and improves the team’s development and delivery practices. Approximately 70% of the time will support the product team, with the remaining 30% spent on self-directed leadership work and platform improvements. The role also contributes to DevOps, security, and compliance efforts for Dscout’s SaaS and mobile platform. Dscout supports a remote-first workforce and permits employees to work from almost anywhere, with hiring restrictions in Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington, DC. The role expects availability during core hours of 9:30 AM–5:00 PM CT, with flexibility when needed.

Requirements

  • Significant mobile software engineering experience at Principal/Staff-level scope; the employer values work shipped and led rather than titles.
  • Experience with both iOS and Android, and willingness to work outside the mobile ecosystem when needed.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex for substantial work, and an opinion on designing a software development lifecycle around them.
  • System architecture experience that complements mobile expertise, including backend API design, databases, mobile DevOps, and understanding system-wide trade-offs.
  • A proven record of leading, mentoring, and growing engineers.
  • Expertise with cloud-based SaaS architectures and evolutionary design.
  • Familiarity with agile, DevOps, CI/CD, observability and tracing, and data- and metrics-based decision-making.
  • Ability to set direction with minimal input while staying aligned with company goals.
  • Availability during core hours of 9:30 AM–5:00 PM Central Time, with flexibility for occasional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mobile team and its continued maturity and evolution in an AI-native environment.
  • Establish an AI-native mobile development process involving agents, evaluations, and review loops.
  • Drive a thin-client architecture for the participant experience, moving business logic to the backend so mobile apps remain simple.
  • Contribute Python to the AI backend service when mobile needs new capabilities, using AI agents to work efficiently.
  • Set direction for the participant API and broader participant platform beyond the mobile team.
  • Spend about 70% of working time supporting the product team and about 30% on self-directed leadership tasks and platform improvements.
  • Drive continuous process improvement across the mobile team and partner teams.
  • Mentor engineers and help evolve the Engineering organization.
  • Apply a DevOps mindset to improve the Continuous Delivery pipeline and other operational aspects of the SaaS and mobile platform.
  • Participate in organizational security and compliance efforts.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package with a built-in bonus and equity program.
  • Benefits for employees and dependents, including flexible PTO, 15 company holidays, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and a 401(k) match.
  • Education stipend for growth and development.
  • Remote work stipend.
