About The Position

This position primarily operates large mowers and tractors ranging from 25HP to 125HP on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge and at offsite locations as directed. Safe operation around pedestrians, employees, and other traffic is a primary concern. The position requires a complete understanding of preventive maintenance and proper operation of the equipment.

The operator works with landscape and construction crews on grounds-maintenance tasks, performs equipment cleaning, greasing, minor repairs, and record keeping, and keeps equipment ready and safe for operation and inspection. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• One year of experience in mobile equipment operations.
• Valid Louisiana Class E License.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and to walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Ability to operate equipment safely around pedestrians, employees, and other traffic.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends.
• May be required to report to or stay on campus during an emergency or closure.
• Subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
• Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate 25HP to 125HP tractors and large mowers pulling equipment such as bush hogs, flails, finish mower decks, and side bush hogs for mowing activities on campus and at offsite locations as directed.
• Work with landscape and construction crews on tasks necessary for grounds maintenance.
• Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, greasing, minor repairs, and associated record keeping to keep equipment ready and safe for operation and inspection.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
