About The Position

We’re looking for a technically credible Mobile Engineering Manager to lead the delivery and evolution of native mobile experiences. This role sits at the center of how Customers interact with their benefits across native iOS and Android applications, supported by mobile backend services and quality engineering. This is a high‑impact, highly visible role that blends people leadership, technical judgment, and disciplined delivery. You’ll lead engineers across iOS, Android, Mobile Backend, and Mobile Quality Engineering, partner closely with Product and UX, and ensure the team delivers reliable, customer‑centric experiences with confidence and predictability. Requirements

  • 3+ years Mobile Engineering Background and leading teams
  • Prior hands‑on experience as a mobile engineer (iOS, Android, or both).
  • Working knowledge of SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience shipping native apps via App Store Connect and Google Play Console.
  • Familiarity with mobile backend integrations, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and mobile observability tools such as New Relic.
  • People and Delivery Leadership Experience leading mobile engineering teams across multiple initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, commit, and deliver against sprint and PI objectives.
  • Strong collaborator with Product, UX, Operations, and Platform teams.
  • Comfortable balancing empathy and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop engineers across native iOS, native Android, Mobile Backend, and Mobile Quality Engineering.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, feedback, performance management, and career growth.
  • Create an environment where engineers feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do their best work.
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery for mobile initiatives — from planning through execution, release, and ongoing support.
  • Lead quarterly Program Increment (PI) planning, ensuring alignment to business priorities, dependencies, and team capacity.
  • Translate PI goals into clear sprint plans with realistic commitments.
  • Ensure teams commit to sprint objectives, manage scope actively, and deliver predictably.
  • Own sprint execution health, including burndown tracking, backlog health, and delivery visibility.
  • Use Jira boards and agile ceremonies to maintain transparency and focus.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for delivery risks, dependency challenges, and production issues.
  • Bring prior hands‑on mobile engineering experience to architecture, design, and decision‑making.
  • Guide engineers on native mobile best practices using SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.
  • Review and challenge designs to ensure scalability, performance, maintainability, and security.
  • Support sound mobile backend and API integration patterns.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point when teams face complex problems.
  • You are not expected to code daily, but you must be comfortable leading technical discussions and making informed engineering decisions.
  • You are accountable for the health of GB Mobile in production, including: App stability (crash rates, ANRs, production defects), Performance (native app cold start, responsiveness, backend latency), Release confidence and operational readiness.
  • Oversee release execution through App Store Connect and Google Play Console.
  • Partner closely with Mobile Quality Engineers to ensure strong automation and regression protection.
  • Lead incident management, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑through on corrective actions.
  • Use observability tools such as New Relic (or equivalent) to monitor performance, improve reliability, and accelerate issue resolution.
  • Work closely with Product and UX on journey‑based prioritization, aligning engineering effort to customer outcomes.
  • Help shape roadmaps and execution plans that balance feature delivery with platform health.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Security, and Operations to ensure solutions are secure, compliant, and production‑ready.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders on progress, risks, tradeoffs, and results.
  • Promote disciplined agile delivery through planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Use data (burndown, throughput, incident trends) to continuously improve team predictability and delivery confidence.
  • Encourage sustainable pace while maintaining high standards for quality and execution.
